The judges first see the line from shoulder to lap. The classic length falls over the saddle and leaves this line unbroken, even when the horse comes in strong trot.
Black turns the concealed button placket into one continuous surface on which the eye does not catch. The fabric breathes and keeps its line to the last track, suitable for use under FEI and LPO rules. If you prefer the shorter silhouette, you will also find the same tailcoat as a short tailcoat.
