Bucas at Equinista in Rostock

Bucas was founded in Cork, Ireland, in 1981 and has made horse rugs ever since. Since the end of 2017 the brand has belonged to the German company Albert Kerbl GmbH. The range

• Irish Turnout: turnout rug with a ripstop outer and Dermo-care lining, with 0, 50, 100, 150, 250 or 300 g of fill. Colours Black/Gold, Navy/Gold and Espresso.
• Freedom Turnout: turnout rug with a ripstop outer and Dermo-care lining, as a Light with no fill and with 150 or 300 g. Colours Navy/Silver and the seasonal colours Blackberry and Blueberry.
• Atlantic Turnout: turnout rug in ballistic nylon with Dermo-care lining, with 50 or 200 g of fill, in Atlantic green.
• Atlantic Exclusive: ballistic nylon outer, Dermo-care inside with an additional Stay-dry lining, as a Light and Medium in Navy/Light Blue.
• Neck covers to fit the Irish Turnout and Atlantic Turnout.
• Stable rugs: the Bucas Quilt with 150 or 300 g, on its own or as an under-rug beneath a Bucas turnout rug, and the Cosy Stable with faux-fur lining.
• Coolers: the Therapy Cooler with Therapy material in the upper part and Stay-dry lining below, and the Competition Cooler with Stay-dry lining and a mesh insert for warm competition days.
• Accessories: chest extender with magnetic fastening.

Stay-dry and Dermo-care are Bucas's two lining fabrics. Stay-dry is a fleece that, according to Bucas, wicks moisture away from the skin. Dermo-care is a smooth lining that also wicks away moisture and keeps the coat smooth.

Which fill for which temperature?

For each fill weight of the Irish Turnout, Bucas gives a recommended temperature range. According to Bucas, whether a horse needs more or less depends on whether it is clipped, as well as on sun, humidity, wind and movement.

Sizes

Bucas measures from the centre of the chest over the highest point of the shoulder to the back edge of the hind leg. The rug size follows from this length. The shop shows the European size together with the British one, for example 145 cm · 6'6".

Neck covers follow the rug size: XS for rugs of 115 to 120, S for 125 to 130, M for 135 to 140, L for 145 and XL for 155 to 170. If your horse falls between two sizes, Bucas recommends the larger. You will find all conversions in our size guide.

Which Bucas rug do I need for winter?

That depends on whether your horse is clipped and how it is kept. The table above gives a guide: Bucas recommends the Irish Turnout with 150 g for −5 to 10 °C, and with 300 g for −10 to 8 °C. If you are unsure, give us a call.

Can I put a second rug under the turnout rug?

Yes. Bucas Quilt, liners and coolers can be fastened under Bucas turnout rugs. According to Bucas, all turnout rugs except the Freedom, Anniversary and high-neck models have the attachment points for this.

What does shipping cost?

Within Germany, insured shipping costs €4.90 and is free on orders over €75. To the core EU countries it costs €9.90 and is free on orders over €150. All countries are listed on the Shipping page.

Can I buy on invoice?

Can I return items?
